A film dealing with problems facing Keighley’s youth reflects the reality of growing up in the area, according to one of its lead actors.

Over the weekend the Lund Park Community Group filmed Bottle, which will be put online, shown to groups and entered into film festivals.

The short film was devised as a way of giving a voice to the youth of Keighley, and most of the cast and crew are from the area. Some were professionals, but most were stepping in front of, or behind, the camera for the first time.

Written by group member David Halsall, Bottle has been in development for more than a year. It was filmed at locations including Lund Park, the old police cells and town pubs.

The story revolves around Lee, played by Lewis Todd, from Keighley, and how a lucky break turns sour when local villain Ryan, played by Lloyd Li, pressures him into a dangerous situation.

Emma Hughes, 21, from Bradford, played female lead, Kelly. Currently looking for full-time acting work, she said the appeal of the film is that it reflects what it is like to be a young person in the town.

She said: “It’s about real young people, so they can totally relate to it. It’s what goes on, about the peer pressure young people face.

“There was a lot of input from young people and the script reflects the language we use – it’s not from an adult’s point of view.” David Beaumont, a professional filmmaker who grew up in Keighley, directed the film. He said: “When the group first contacted me they were enthusiastic and committed, but didn’t have any real film-making experience.

“We brought in a handful of professional cast and crew from across the region to work with them and with that help the group have made something they can be proud of.”
