Roberts Park in Saltaire will shine with the glow of hundreds of runners’ noses next month during the annual Reindeer Stampede.

Now in its third year, the run is organised by Epilepsy Action and raises money for the 600,000 people effected by Epilepsy in the UK.

What separates the 5k from other sponsored runs is the Christmas theme – runners are encouraged to either dress up as one of Santa’s hooved helpers or don antlers during the course of the race.

This year’s run, a circle around the picturesque park, takes place on December 9, and the Yeadon-based charity hopes the race is as successful as in previous years.

Michael White, fundraising events officer at Epilepsy Action, said: “The Epilepsy Action Reindeer Stampede has been a great success since it launched two years ago.

“It’s a fantastically festive event and is suitable for all ages and abilities.

“Participants can run, walk or jog the course and children can take part in their very own mini-fun run, making it a great seasonal day out for the whole family. The money raised at this event will make a huge difference to the lives of people affected by epilepsy.

“Just £6 could help our experts support someone newly diagnosed with epilepsy, providing advice and information when they need it most.

“People in Saltaire and the surrounding area have always been very supportive of this event and we hope they’ll continue that tradition this year.”

After finishing, the runners will be treated to a mince pie, as well as a medal.

The main run is open to anyone aged 8 and up, and children younger than 8 can take part in a mini-stampede.

The event starts at 10am. Entry costs £10 for adults and £5 for children under 15. Reindeer antlers can be bought from Epilepsy Action for £2.50.
