A school librarian is set to lobby the Government for more protection for “vital” school library services.
Karen King, a school librarian at Oakbank School in Keighley, will join a protest at the Houses of Parliament on Monday, organised by the Certified Institute of Librarian and Information Professionals and the School Library Association.
The campaigners want school libraries to be protected by law, so they receive Government support and are inspected by Ofsted.
Mrs King, of Cross Hills, Keighley, said: “We’re asking for school libraries to be included for Ofsted inspection, with a set of standard criteria against which they can be judged.
“We’re also asking that the wider requirements of delivering a high-quality school library are seriously considered.”
She plans to meet Keighley MP Kris Hopkins and Skipton MP Julian Smith to raise her concerns.
