An aspiring Wharfedale director’s film about a precocious baby has reached the final of a national competition.

Nick Scurfield’s Early Bird, a humorous short that shows an infant getting up to cook a fry-up for his sleeping dad, is in the running to win the Parliamentary Film the House contest.

The film stars both 34-year-old Otley resident Mr Scurfield and his two-year old-son, Elliott.

MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West), who nominated the entry, said: “I am thrilled to hear that Nick is in the final of Film the House and pleased to have the opportunity to support this brilliant initiative, which showcases the best of British talent.”

Open to all amateur film-makers, Film the House is designed to raise political awareness about the importance of copyright and intellectual property while giving the winning entries national publicity.
