The official race route for the Bradford City Run has been announced, after the Council revealed “hundreds” of runners had already signed up.

The event will take the form of a 10k and a 5k race which start and finish at City Park, skirting around the Bradford College and University of Bradford sites.

Organisers hope to attract more than 1,000 participants on the actual day.

The race, which had gained fame as a tough half-marathon winding through the Bradford countryside, was due to be held in September, but has now been moved to Sunday, December 2 to prevent clashes with similar events in the region.

Phil Barker, the Council’s assistant director for sport and leisure, said: “It has been a busy and successful year for sport in the UK and Bradford is delighted to be ending the year in style with our new format Bradford City Run starting and finishing at our beautiful City Park.”

Families and friends are being encouraged to come along and cheer on the runners and soak up the atmosphere.

This year’s run is supported by Real Radio and is being organised in association with a number of charitable organisations including Sprinkle Sunshine, the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, Child Hope, NSPCC and Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Runners can find out more information about these charities by visiting the official website or they can take the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for a charity of their own choice.

There are trophies and prizes to be won and all participants receive a commemorative medal. Discounts on entry fees are also available for UK Athletics members and Passport for Leisure Holders.
