A film shot in Bradford on a budget of just £60 was premiered in the city last night.

The cast and crew worked for free on the film, called Gatecrasher, which was made with support from local businesses, Bradford Council, Bradford Chamber of Commerce and Bradford City of Film.

Filming took place at city centre locations including the Alhambra theatre, Midland Hotel, Bar Uber, Theatre in the Mill and City Park.

Described as a dark comedy, Gatecrasher is about a young gay actor fresh out of drama school who struggles to find the right roles.

When he persuades an older established playwright to write his dream script, ambition slowly turns to obsession.

The film, starring former Emmerdale actor Ryan Prescott, is made by Yorkshire-based media company, HCR Films Ltd.

The brainchild of writer Adam Hughes, producer Frank Ryan and director Paul Cockroft, who met working on a production at Bradford Playhouse, it is attracting interest from distribution companies in London and Los Angeles.

“With a budget of just £60 and a willing cast and crew who believed in the project, this short film has been created to the highest quality, with a view to producing a full-length feature film along the same plot-structure,” said Mr Cockroft.

“We’re proud to work with not only Bradford Council and Chamber of Commerce, but also City of Film and local businesses who have provided us with locations, on-site catering and advice.”

Producer Frank Ryan added: “The support of our local community and businesses has been invaluable.

“Thanks to them we’ve been able to create a really high impact film on a significantly low budget.”

Last night’s premiere, at the Midland Hotel, was attended by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Dale Smith.
