As the devastated family of a murder victim prepare for his funeral tomorrow, police are again calling for the public’s help to find his killer.

Grandfather Clement Desmier, known as Butch, was found dead at his home in Rowlestone Rise, Greengates, on August 23.

The 68-year-old had died from multiple injuries, a post-mortem examination revealed.

But so far no-one has been charged with his murder, despite a series of high-profile appeals.

Yesterday, the detective leading the investigation urged anyone with information to get in touch and help his family get “the answers they deserve”.

Detective Superintendent Mark Ridley said: “It is just over two months since the death of Mr Desmier and clearly an upsetting time for all close to him. Mr Desmier was much-loved and our thoughts are with those paying their respects.

“I am calling on the community to come forward with any information that will help his family and friends receive the answers they deserve.

“The breakthrough we need is likely to lie locally and even the smallest detail could lead us to tracing those responsible.”

Det Supt Ridley said Mr Desmier was last seen alive on the afternoon of August 22, when he went into his home with another man.

He said: “We still do not know who this man is and it is imperative that we are able to quickly speak to him as part of our enquiry. This is the last-known sighting of Mr Desmier and the information this individual may hold could be key to our investigations.

“We are also very keen to trace two men reported to have been acting suspiciously outside Mr Desmier’s home address during the early hours of August 23.

“If you can help us identify any of these people, either during Mr Desmier's last sighting or outside the address the following morning, please get in touch.”

There is a £5,000 Crimestoppers reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Mr Desmier’s killer or killers.
