A limited edition book created as part of a Bradford project to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee has been presented to the Lord Mayor of Bradford, who in turn gave a copy to competition winner, ten-year-old Taslima Begum.

The Manningham schoolgirl triumphed in the Little Diamonds of Bradford contest earlier this year, winning the best individual story category for her tale about a journey taken by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they searched for King Arthur.

Taslima’s story, as well as others from children entering the competition and cuttings from the Telegraph & Argus, were included in the book, which runs to 200 pages.

It showcases all the art, poetry, stories and other works created by schoolchildren across the district demonstrating what the diamond jubilee meant to them.

Only six hardback copies of the book have been printed by Bingley firm Emerald Publishing, which sponsored the project.

The final copy will be delivered by the organisers and Taslima to Buckingham Palace on Monday. About 50 paperback copies will be distributed to the schools that took part in the project.

The project was organised by Rehfan Khan and Nadeem Khan after the success of a similar scheme ten years ago to mark the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.

Rehfan Khan said yesterday’s presentation went well and that it had been the first time the children had seen the finished book.

“One of the books was presented to the Lord Mayor’s office so that it can be kept in City Hall.

“We will be presenting another copy of the book to Buckingham Palace on Monday. I’m sure the Queen will think the children of Bradford are very talented to have created such a different project,” he said. Organisers are now in the process of creating a film showing how the project came together.
