FOR the stalwart strollers walking is a pleasurable pastime throughout the year.

While the colder months prompt many to spend more time indoors, hardy ramblers will layer up with extra pullovers to explore the landscape Yorkshire is so famous for.

And what better way to see the changing seasons? The colour-changing landscape is a beautiful sight to behold whether exploring God's Own Country in spring, summer, Autumn or Winter.

Of course, some will know the paths and tracks like the back of their hand, but having a handy guide is essential and could even lead you to places, and provide breathtaking views, you haven't seen before.

'Dales Way' is the latest title in the Trailblazer's British Walking Guides 15-title series.

Written by the highly experienced trekking author, Henry Stedman, renowned for his convivial style, the book provides walkers with all they need to know to plan and walk The Dales Way.

Often described as one of the easiest of the long distance paths in Britain, the walk, stretching for approximately 81 miles (130km) between the towns of Ilkley, at the southern end of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Bowness-on-Windermere, the most popular tourist destination in the Lake District National Park.

Following the beautiful River Wharfe for most of the first half of the trail from the Yorkshire Dales to the Lake District National Park, this breathtaking stroll can be tackled by everyone regardless of age.

However, it isn't all level with some steep gradients particularly as the path approaches the source of the Wharfe and the watershed, and on the approach to the Lakes but the Dales Way is one of the country's shortest and most straightforward long-distance trails.

With the wealth of sign-posts it's easy for those navigating the route to keep on the right track.

Comprising 38 large-scale maps and guides to 23 towns and villages, the book provides a handy guide to help you plan your stroll and also gives details of places to stay and those all important refreshment stops along the way.

Beginning in Ilkley, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, it runs for 81 miles ending in the Lake District at Bowness-on-Windermere.

Boasting spectacular views along the way, walkers can take in the sights of the River Wharfe towards Ribblehead, passing along the river valleys of Dentdale and dropping down into the Lake District National Park finishing close to Lake Windermere.

Described as a 'relatively easy walk' it takes about a week to complete. What are you waiting for......?
