Description:
Bradford Grammar School is an independent, co-education day school for girls and boys from the age of 6 years to 18 years. Established in 1548 and granted its charter as a Free Grammar School by Charles II in 1662, the school has an excellent reputation for sport, music and the arts as well as academic studies.
The Bradford Grammar School of the twenty-first century is a school for girls and boys that is thoroughly modern. We look to the future with justifiable optimism and aim to remain one of the country’s leading independent co-educational day schools.
As well as high academic standards the school offers an exciting programme of activities for pupils of all ages, interests and abilities, aimed to broaden their experience, provide challenge and competition; promote teamwork, skill, athleticism and a sense of personal achievement. Music, sport and drama as well as, for older pupils, CCF and Duke of Edinburgh Award, are all enjoyed by pupils.
The school’s long-standing tradition of promoting social diversity by awarding means tested bursaries to children whose families would not be able to pay some or all of the fees, remains at the core of our values. Over 100 pupils in the senior school are bursary holders thanks to support from Old Bradfordians, friends of the school, charitable trusts and local and international companies.
Activities: Both the junior and senior schools have a wide range of extra-curricular activities available to all pupils, encompassing sport, drama, debating, CCF, The Duke of Edinburgh Award, Outdoor Expeditions, Philosophical Society and many others. Wednesday afternoon is an activities afternoon for senior school pupils with additional activities taking place during lunch times. Junior School extra-curricular activities take place mainly during lunch times.
Facilities: The school has updated and improved many of its facilities over the past ten years, providing pupils with a 25m competition swimming pool, all-weather pitch and a new sports pavilion as well as a dedicated music school and sixth form centre. The junior school is self-contained within the school campus and has its own DT, music, art and ICT facilities, playground and gardens. Subject to planning permission being granted, it is hoped that a new three storey science and social science block will be built in the next twelve months.
Forthcoming Events: The next Open Day for both the junior and senior schools takes place on Saturday 3 October 2009 from 10am – 4pm. The junior school’s next Open House takes place on Thursday 19 October. Details about Open House can be obtained from Mrs Amanda Fletcher on 01274 553742.
