Fulneck Dramatic Society is seeking a home for a hand-built doll’s house starring in its latest production.

The Pudsey-based theatre group is staging Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. Director Alacoque Marvin says once the final curtain comes down tomorrow evening, it is unlikely the group will have a use for the prop.

“The house was built for the show by our president, Dougie Brennan,” said Alacoque.

Alacoque has updated Ibsen’s 1879 play to the 1950s. The story of domestic revolution takes place over Christmas as the Helmers and their friends embark on a journey of self-discovery.

“The play is about women's liberation and was well ahead of its time when first performed in the late 19th century,” said Alacoque.

“While two world wars had changed society by the 1950s, it was still accepted that women weren’t able to cope with much outside domesticity.”

A Doll’s House runs at Fulneck's Comenius Arts Centre until tomorrow. For tickets contact Chris Robbins on (0113) 2570569.

Anyone who knows of a group, charity, school or anyone who could give the house a home is asked to e-mail info@fulneckdramaticsociety.co.uk.
