MAGIC, comedy and family fun are on the bill at Bradford Magic Circle's show, Hey Presto.

The line-up includes Alain Choquette, described as a magic performer who is constantly re-inventing himself. Using a blend of humour, illusion and audience interaction, the French magician will showcase his award-winning close-up magic skills in his eighth appearance at the annual Hey Presto show.

Presiding over the evening is Steve Gore, a member of Bradford Magic Circle who has competed in magic competitions around the country and regularly lectures at magic organisations, including the Magic Castle in Hollywood, Los Angeles, where he recently performed parlour shows for US stars including actor Josh Brolin.

Dynamo, aka superstar illusionist Steven Frayne, is a former member of Bradford Magic Circle and is performing in Manchester tomorrow, on his first UK live tour.

"He learned some of his skills with us, winning our close-up magic competition, and he's always been very supportive," says Steve.

"The Bradford Magic Circle has many members, from amateur to professional, all friendly and trying to further the art of magic. Today it has more than 40 members, ranging in ages from 14 to the 90s, both male and female. We hold monthly meetings and also annual events such as our Hey Presto magic show at Bingley Arts Centre. The show has continued to be a great success, as recent full-houses have shown. We also hold annual competitions in both stage and close-up magic, allowing our members to show their magical styles, new illusions and ideas. Dynamo won it in 2000."

Also on the bill is Mark James, a comedy magician and juggler who has performed in more than 40 countries, and Andrew Green, one of the UK's leading illusionists who recently returned from Dubai where he performed at the Cirque Le Soir.

Children's magician Simon Hannah specialises in bright, colourful shows featuring circus skills, ventriloquism, puppetry, clowning and balloon modelling which he has performed around the UK, Europe and in America.

Simon also entertains young patients in children’s hospital wards, using puppets, colours and textures and mind-boggling illusions.

"He is able to take their minds away for a little while from the pain and discomfort they may be feeling and turn it into a beautiful smile that the parents may not have seen for a while," says Steve Gore.

Also entertaining the audience tomorrow is the Wright Theatre Arts Dance Academy, based in Ilkley. The young dancers will be performing two pieces from their recent production of Peter Pan at King's Hall. Their routine Shiver Me Timbers will open the show, and they will perform Bollywood Fire in the second half.

Led by Lynne Wright, the dance school provides tuition in various dance genres and theatre skills. Former students are currently training at the Royal Ballet Upper School, Phoenix Dance Company's Senior Youth Academy and Dance For Life in Edinburgh.
