YEADON Amateurs have reinforced their stage floor – so cast members can tap dance their way through their next production.

Once rehearsals got under way for the society’s production of light comedy Stepping Out, about a tap dancing class, it came to light that the floor at Yeadon Liberal Club, where rehearsals take place, needed some protection.

Playwright Richard Harris’s warm and funny play is about the lives, laughs and loves of a tap group that meets weekly to prepare for a charity show-stopping performance. Will the group be able to pull off their big night?

Kath Williams starred in a previous Yeadon Amateurs production of Stepping Out 23 years ago, playing the part of Maxine. This time around she is directing the play and is “absolutely delighted” to be back – especially since she doesn’t have to remember all those tricky tap dancing routines this time around. She assures the cast she has dusted off her tap shoes though, just in case she’s needed on stage. “The sticking plasters in the first aid box have been invaluable at rehearsals as the cast have ‘tap-spring ball-changed’ all through the summer,” says Kath. “They’ve got blisters on top of blisters, but on opening night it will all have been worth it.”

Stepping Out runs at Yeadon Town Hall from from Wednesday, October 1, to Saturday, October 4, starting at 7.30pm. For tickets call (01132) 503032 or 2505587.
