One of Otley’s oldest buildings is now a functioning art gallery and occasional indoor market.
The Old Grammar School Gallery was recently opened by Zack Whitehead, who manages it, and last weekend hosted its first solo exhibition called A Study of Trees, by local artist David Johnson.
Visitors to Saturday’s opening included Otley Town Mayor Mary Vickers and her grandson, who were particularly impressed with the standard of the work on display.
Johnson’s exhibition comprises 38 paintings using oil and acrylic to express the trees in a manner not too far removed from the portraiture Johnson is traditionally known for.
Zack Whitehead said: “The art is all for sale, with the price range (£30 – £750) reflecting the gallery’s ethos that original art can be affordable. Prints of the large canvases are also available for £25 each.
