Striking perspectives of cities across the world, including Bradford, have gone on display in the city centre.

Cityscapes, by David Questa, is on the first floor gallery at Hand Made in Bradford, the arts and crafts display and retail site run by arts development agency Fabric.

Artist David Questa has captured views of places he loves and has a connection with. Much time is spent sketching, experimenting, painting and re-painting to create an image reflecting his memories and understanding of the towns and cities he has lived in. The oil paintings compare the winding streets and roof tops of Bologna and Bradford to the formal grids of Melbourne and New York.

“They are not snap shots or a split-second recording but a record of the life of a place and how it has grown, how it has evolved,” he says. “Sometimes we’re looking down onto roofs that run like streams cutting through man-made valleys of stone. In other works we see the mastery of planning, giant grids containing millions of lights.”

His loose, expressive style, thick textured paint and dramatic brush marks compete against the structure and order of the buildings in his work.

Cityscapes runs until December 22. For more about David’s work visit questa.jimdo.com.
