AN increasingly popular weekend celebrating a science fiction genre will again hit the streets of Haworth later this month.

The Haworth Steampunk Weekend will return to the village for its fourth year from November 18, 19 and 20.

Steampunk imagines a world where steam-powered industry has persisted far into an alternative future, generating bizarre forms of fashion and technology.

Organisers of this year's weekend in Haworth are promising visitors a variety of entertainments including live music acts, marching bands, dancers, burlesque performers, and displays of vintage vehicles.

There will also be "tea duelling", steampunk traders offering clothes and accessories, a fashion show, steam train rides on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway and a masquerade ball.

As in previous years visitors can also expect to see a huge range of exotic and innovative costumes on display.

Everyone who supports this event will be helping to raise vital funds for Manorlands Hospice.

£15 tickets are now on sale at the Black Bull Pub in Haworth's Main Street for the masquerade ball and burlesque evening.

Last year's Steampunk Weekend boosted Manorlands' coffers by raising £4,077. More details are available on the Haworth Steampunk Weekend Facebook page.

The occasion is now the first in a series of established events in Haworth over the autumn and into the winter, with the later festivities forming part of the village's Christmas celebrations.

The Christmas fun begins on Sunday November 27, with youngsters taking part in the Scroggling the Holly Parade up Main Street, ending with the crowning of this year's Holly Queen on the steps of Haworth Parish Church.

Early next month there will be a Christmas market in Haworth Central Park from 9am to 5.30pm on December 3 and 4.

This will feature a number of stalls selling, among other things, unique gifts, hand crafted jewellery, crafts, homemade soaps, chocolates and hot mulled wine.

There will also be Yorkshire cheese, jams, pickles and chutneys and lots more on sale, with donkey rides taking place for younger visitors.

On Sunday December 11 people can enjoy the 2016 Haworth torchlight parade, which features an atmospheric candle-lit procession up Main Street, culminating in a traditional carol service in the church.

There will be a nativity parade in the village on December 24.

Shops will be open for late night custom on December 8 and December 17, and many traders on Main Street will be joining in by donning Victorian-era costumes at the weekends.
