HUNDREDS of families flocked to City Park this weekend for an extravaganza of fun.

Bradford Council's play development team organised the Saturday afternoon event to launch a series of sessions being held during the six-week school summer holidays in Bradford.

Long queues built up as children of all ages, with parents, aunties and grandparents, took advantage of the good weather and a range of fun activities.

Among the most popular was Spider Mountain, an enclosed play pen which youngsters could climb up to descend from the top down a 30-foot rubber slide.

Other big attractions were the climbing wall and super trampoline, which gave kids the chance to be brave while strapped safely in by ropes and safety helmets, as well as face painting, hula hoops and trying on policemen's caps.

Jordan Bower, 13, made light of the climbing wall, scaling to the top in quick time.

He said: "It's not easy. At some stages I felt a bit woosy, but I was confident and kept pushing myself. I enjoyed it and I'm going to have another go."

Nine-year-old Kaycie Moore managed to climb three-quarters of the way up the wall, but preferred the DIY section, where she hammered into shape a plank of wood.

Elizabeth Matthew took her ten-year-old grand-daughter, Molly McCulloch, to the event. They started at the Panning for Gold attraction.

Molly said: "I'm going to make my fortune and then climb to the top of the wall."
