SIR - In response to D S Boyes’ letter (March 14) regarding Tony Blair and Co changing their tune on Europe.

This pales into insignificance compared to the Tory party who also have frequently changed their stance on Europe as well as having more front/back bench division over the years on the subject of Europe.

The Tories have changed their minds from Heath being pro-Europe and getting us in the EEC in the first place to Thatcher having a far more Euro-sceptic and more US-friendly stance, then to Major who was strongly pro-Europe to William Hague and Iain Duncan Smith who in opposition were as anti-Europe and single issue politics as you could imagine.

Then Cameron, who started on an anti-EU note and became a supporter of Europe more recently, then Theresa May who hasn’t inspired much confidence at all with her approach to Brexit.
