• You can take to the water tomorrow when Denholme Sailing Club at Doe Park hosts its annual open day. You will be able to experience sailing with trained instructors and if you find you like it, you can join existing members taking a Royal Yachting Association accredited training course. The first course of the season is a start sailing course for novices on April 13 and 20. Details are available from Alan Hart on (01274) 544662 or by visiting denholmesc.co.uk.
  • Are you sitting comfortably? Listen to storyteller Alec Williams read his fables of epic journeys and far flung lands at the Impressions Gallery on Saturday. The story-telling session will take place in the gallery from 2pm to 3pm, where new work by Stephen Vaughan will be on show. Stephen has photographed sites in Iceland that are the nearest equivalent on earth to the surfaces of the moon and Mars. His stunning large-scale photographs show landscapes marked by volcanic activity, shifting tectonic plates, vast glaciers and steaming sulphurous pools. The story session at the Impressions Gallery, Centenary Square, is ideal for children aged seven years and over and, while it is a free event, booking is advised.
  • Whether it's seeing children as young as 11 years old playing to grade-eight standard and above, or the sheer passion and enthusiasm of the performers, it's guaranteed that the National Children's Orchestra concert on Saturday will leave you astounded and amazed. Each year the orchestra auditions hundreds of talented children. The performance starts at 3pm at Leeds Town Hall.
