LOCAL schools will be competing against schools from across the North in a performance contest later this month.

The Rock Challenge is organised to “inspire, engage and motivate” young people to make healthy lifestyle choices and sees school teams choreograph, perform and design sets and costumes for lavish musical numbers.

On June 29 Grimsby Auditorium will be taken over by more than 2,000 students as they take part in the finals of the event.

High Crags Academy will take part on the first day alongside the top teams from Hull, East Yorkshire, Cumbria, Nottinghamshire and N.Lincolnshire. They will be competing for awards of excellence and hoping to steal Oldfleet Primary School’s title of 2016 Northern Junior Champions.

The Northern Open Final take place on June 30, with and Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College competing against schools from the North.

Beckfoot Thornton and Tong Leadership Academy will be representing West Yorkshire in the Northern Premier Final. These schools, who previously showcased their performances at a local event, will be hoping to take the title of Northern Premier Champions from last year’s winners, Arbroath High School.

Supervising Event Manager, Sophia Campbell comments: “The standard of performances this year have been incredible and we are set to have three extremely strong finals.”
