A GCSE pupil has just achieved the impressive feat of finishing 12 years of school without missing a single day.

Amelia Passey, 15, from Clayton Heights, Bradford, is currently sitting her GCSEs at Queensbury school, and finished her regular schooling last month.

She has made it into school every day in her five years there, just like she had for her seven years at Shibden Head Primary School.

It means she has gone 2,280 school days without a sick day.

Amelia is one of the youngest pupils in her year group, only turning 16 in July. She told the Telegraph & Argus that her impressive achievement did not mean she never got sick - it was just that any illness tended to never fall on a school day.

Speaking after sitting a GCSE English exam, she said: “I’ve always had 100 per cent attendance, and I wanted to get all the way through school with that.

“People kept saying ‘you need to make it to the end.’ It happened in primary school and now it has happened again.

“I’ve been quite lucky.”

As well as not falling ill during school time, Amelia has also never suffered from an injury that has kept her off school - which is more impressive considering she has spent much of her life involved in gymnastics.

She added: “I’ve just never wanted to miss anything. This year it was especially important, because I’ve got exams so didn’t want to miss any school.

“It is something that I can put on my CV. I’m applying for sixth forms so that is something that you can mention.

“I just feel that if I don’t come to school there is so much I will miss out on.

“I do enjoy school. A lot of people say they can’t wait to leave school, but I really don’t. I’m going to miss it. The only thing I don’t like is all the GCSE revising.”

She was presented with a £50 voucher by the school at an assembly just before GCSE pupils finished for their exams.

She plans to go on to Sixth Form, and has applied for Trinity Academy in Halifax, although she has yet to decide what she wants to do once she finishes there.

Amelia stopped doing gymnastics last year to focus on her exams, but still coaches at Diamonds Gymnastics Club, and in August she starts her British Gymnastics coaching course.

Her mum Jayne Passey said: “I’ve never heard of anyone having 100 per cent attendance all through school. She only ever seems to get ill on Friday afternoons. She’s in very good health, and she’s never had any mishaps that have kept her off school.”

Clare Skelding, Executive Principal at Queensbury School, said: "To have never missed a school day of secondary school is a huge accomplishment that usually, only a small number of students can achieve.

"Not only has Amelia managed that – she has never missed a day of school in her entire life. We know that attendance has a direct link to attainment so we are more than confident that as a result of her efforts, Amelia will secure good outcomes in her GCSEs.

"This kind of resilience and determination is exactly what makes Amelia such a wonderful role model to her peers and as a school, we are delighted to recognise her achievement."
