A Bradford school is embracing the digital age as a district-wide computer revolution rolls out to primary schools.

Green Lane Primary, in Manningham, has launched its new online learning platform.

Known as Green Lane Live, it will be used during lessons where all pupils will be able to contribute to the same piece of work, as well as at home or anywhere else where they can access a computer.

Using SharePoint software, pupils can log-in to discuss their work in a secure chatroom and complete homework tasks.

Teachers will sign attendance registers online to save time, set homework and record children’s progress.

Parents will be able to log-in to see that their child is in school and can browse their child’s achievement and attendance records.

Green Lane head teacher Kevin Holland said: “This won’t replace books, teachers or our core education, this is additional to all those things.”

Assistant head Gill Kicks said: “While we know that some parents may not have access to the internet, it is a fact that an increasing number do, and even more will be helped with grants from next year via the Government’s Home Access initiative.”

Pupil Sonia Khan, ten, said she was excited after using a trial version last year.

She said: “It helped me do my homework because we could communicate with each other.”
