Window champ cleans up world record attempt
    Champion window cleaner Janine Guiseley

It's all in the wrists, says Janine Guiseley, who has officially become the world's fastest woman window cleaner.

This Christmas thousands of people will be opening their traditional Guinness World Records present, and in amongst the athletes, explorers and thrill-seekers will be proud Janine.

She delivered a polished performance when she squeegeed' milliseconds off the existing window cleaning record recorded in last year's book.

The Heckmondwike resident will now take her place in the 2007 Guinness World Records book that is hitting shop shelves now.

"It feels amazing to have broken a record and to be included in the Guinness book," said Janine, 42.

"It's something I can treasure forever and it will always be there."

She clinched the record by cleaning three 1,143 x 1,143mm (45 x 45ins) office windows set in a frame with a 300mm (11.75ins) long squeegee and nine litres of water in 25.38 seconds.

"You got time added on if you left any smears," she said.

The previous record was held by Janet Palfreyman, of Leicestershire, who set a record of 25.99 seconds.

Janine, of Sharpe Street, got into window cleaning when she met her husband Richard, who owns his own cleaning company, 14 years ago.

"I had never done it before but then I met Richard and helped him out with the business by cleaning a few windows and doing the books," said Janine, who has one daughter.

"It just started from there really."

Janine achieved the accolade at the annual trade show of the Federation for Window Cleaners, of which her husband is a member.

She broke the record in April last year in Newcastle but it has only just been published in the new edition of the Guinness World Records book.

"I wasn't trying consciously to break the record I was just taking part for a laugh," she said.

"I was gob-smacked when they told me I was the fastest."

Janine is certain about the secret of her success.

"It's all in the wrist action," she said.

Janine, who works at the Ponderosa Therapeutic Farm in Heckmondwike, said: "I hope to hold on to the title and I will definitely be defending it in the future."
