Bradford's first Poet Laureate was yesterday unveiled at a civic lunch in City Hall.
Gerard Benson, who lives in the city will appear at civic and Council events with specially-written poems to promote the district in the three-year honorary position.
Mr Benson has already written six poems about life in Bradford and wasted no time in reciting one of his favourites, a piece called Interchange Bus Station At Night.
He said: "I have been asked to write some poems to support things going on in the borough and have been asked not to be negative."
Mr Benson has worked in Bradford schools, given readings and workshops at libraries and performed at the Alhambra Studio and a number of other Bradford venues.
He is one of Britain's best-loved children's poets for books like To Catch an Elephant. He is also known for his adult work and, as well as a number of his own books, he has poems in over 100 anthologies.
