A PLEA for support by a bookshop on a countdown to closure has prompted a small boost in sales.

David Ford, owner of Saltaire Books in Saltaire Road, announced a six-month time limit for his business, unless trade picked up.

He called on those who support his shop on social media to do so in the real world - by calling in and buying something.

"There's been a lot of fresh social media support, which of course is nice, and it was busier on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

"But what we need is people out with their wallets or purses," Mr Ford said yesterday.

"So I'm hoping it will be super Saturday, as things are very much touch and go.

"I don't just want people to go out and come to their local bookshop, I really want them to go into all the local shops as a matter of habit.

"A lot of those shops need saving too," he said.
