A BRADFORD manufacturer has cleaned up with an 11 per cent increase in sales to more than £17 million.

Astonish, which makes cleaning products at its base in Staithgate Lane, reported the sales rise of £17,056,807 for the financial year ending March 31, 2015.

It has also reported growth in both its UK sales of 12 per cent and export sales of seven per cent over the same period.

Astonish's expansion continues after it announced its branded products will be stocked in 234 B&Q Marketplace and 104 Staples stores across the country.

The deals feature tubs of Astonish stain remover being stocked by 166 B&Q stores throughout the country.

It makes a range of 70 products which are Vegetarian Society approved as well as being registered with the Vegan Society and Cruelty Free International.

Howard Moss, managing director, said: "The success of the Astonish brand goes back to our values as a business which are that we will produce low-cost products that are as good, if not better than those of our competitors.

"It hasn't been easy and the market has changed irreversibly over recent years but we have maintained our approach and continue to develop new lines that give retailers a value offering and consumers' products that they can rely on.

"With 40 years of experience we have the heritage as well as the foresight to continue with our growth strategy to take even greater share of the market."

Astonish has also increased its export markets to include Japan, Central America and South Korea.

Earlier this year the company announced a turnover of around £20m after 20 per cent year-on-year sales growth.

It employs 70 people from its £4.5m factory near the M606 motorway.

Astonish products are sold by leading UK value chains, along with grocers including Morrisons and Asda.

They offer items including shower cleaner, bathroom cleaner and waterlily washing up liquid.

It also exports around 40 per cent of output to more than 50 countries, such as China, Thailand, Russia and South Africa.

Astonish announced earlier this year that a further £500,000 investment in new production equipment is planned along with £300,000 on fitting solar panels on to the factory roof.

The business was originally founded by Alan Moss, father of current managing director Howard, who sold oven and cookware paste door-to-door.
