THORNTON John BSc ARCA NDD Died August 5, 2017, suddenly at HRI, John aged 77 years of Fixby, Huddersfield. Retired Head Teacher of several Bradford Schools. Dearly loved husband and best friend of Carole, a much loved dad, grandad, brother, uncle and a good friend to many. A celebration of John's life is to be held at St John's Church, St John's Road, Birkby, Huddersfield, HD1 5EA on Friday, August 25, at 12:00 noon, followed by committal at Huddersfield Crematorium, Fixby Road, Huddersfield, HD2 2JF at 1:15p.m. Family flowers only please, but donations in lieu to be shared between Yorkshire Cancer Research and St John's Church, for which a donation box will be available. All enquiries to the D.J. Screen & Sons Funeral Home, Fartown, Tel 01484 452220. Will friends please accept this intimation and meet at the Church.

John was an absolute inspiration and my Headteacher 20 years ago. He was a lovely, compassionate and inspiring man who will always be remembered and treasured. I send my love to all the family. Rest in peace John xxx

So very saddened to hear of John's passing. He was my art teacher in the mid 60s and he was a great character at Tong Comprehensive School. My thoughts go out to his family at this very sad time. RIP

Dear Carole,
We are very sad to hear about John. He was the finest head teacher I ever had the privilege to work with, and a good man. We still remember the New Years Days we spent together. Regrettably we are away on holiday with all the family on the 25th so will not be able to attend the celebration.
