The Prime Minister has snubbed the district by not giving it a slice of £50 million so GPs can extend their opening hours, according to a parliamentary candidate.
Labour’s candidate for Keighley, John Grogan, attacked David Cameron’s ‘snub’ of Bradford and Keighley after areas to benefit from the Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund were announced yesterday.
The government saipd more than seven million patients across the country would benefit from innovative pilot schemes including longer opening hours, using e-mail and Skype to speak to patients and introducing care coordinators. Twenty GP collaborations have been awarded money to run pilots for one year, but none in Bradford or Keighley.
NHS England said more than 250 groups and practices showed expressions of interest in the scheme and were assessed against seven key criteria including public and patient engagement, sustainability and scale and ambition.
Mr Grogan said he was frustrated that just 28 GP practices across the whole of Yorkshire would benefit.
