Bradford school becomes fashion hub

A Bradford school became a fashion hub for one night only as part of an event to raise thousands of pounds for two good causes.

Held at Hanson Academy at Swain House on Thursday evening, the event, called The Launch, saw around 40 students from each year group at the school strike a pose on the catwalk. Organised by project manager Nurgus Qadri and assistant coordinator Faisal Ayub, the event has so far collected £3,300.

The money will go to two charities - the Penny Appeal, which is responsible for aid projects in Africa and Asia, and Cancer Research. The hope is that the moeny given to the Penny Appeal will be able to build six wells in Africa.

Helping students look their best was freelance makeup artist Famida Pathan, who came up from London to provide her services. There were also volunteers who came from Bradford College to help the models prepare and food donated by local businesses.

It is expected that there will be more donations towards the final figure as Muslim staff donate for Ramadan.

The event also saw the launch of the Hanson Charter - a new ethos that staff and students will work towards in order to make the school a great place to work and study.
