Thespians are being called upon to audition for Saltaire’s first free outdoor Shakespearean production.

The idea behind Shakespeare In The Park is to bring theatre to people who may not usually experience it.

Producer and creative director Steve Pearson said: “I was very inspired by a producer in New York who did free theatre there. The play will be bringing theatre to people who usually can’t afford to visit the theatre, or may not consider it.”

The production, on the weekend of June 21 and 22, will be of The Taming Of The Shrew, which is one of Mr Pearson’s favourites.

It will be staged in Roberts Park, which Mr Pearson said was a perfect choice of venue due to its beautiful scenery.

“It’s a really good location and it’s an ideal place to host an open play,” he said.

There will be no tickets or booking fees. People can just turn-up and enjoy the show.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 8, at Bradford Design Exchange at 34 Peckover Street. They are open to anyone over 18, although some experience is preferable.
