Skater given first Emily Rogers Memorial Trophy

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Skater given first Emily Rogers Memorial Trophy Skater given first Emily Rogers Memorial Trophy

The son of a promising ice skater who died eight years ago has presented a new memorial trophy in his mother’s name.

Passionate skater Emily Rogers was 26 when she died in 2005, leaving her mother Krystyna Rogers to bring up her son, Joseph.

Now Joseph is nine and last night presented the Emily Rogers Memorial Trophy to Elvita Zurkovica, the best overall skater, at the Bradford Ice Skating Club IJS Opens, held at Bradford Arena yesterday and Monday.

Krystyna said the trophy, which will be presented annually, would continue Emily’s legacy.

“It was for her talent and passion for the sport that I opened this rink 22 years ago so she, and many like her, could continue training in Bradford,” she said.

The recipient of the award was chosen by a panel of judges.
