Interim Bulls head coach Lee Greenwood is pleased with David Foggin-Johnston’s return to the side over the last three games, and said he never felt as if the winger’s impending move to Keighley would affect him.

The long-serving 27-year-old confirmed he would be joining Cougars on a two-year deal just as Jorge Taufua’s six-game ban came into effect, freeing up a starting spot for him, which he will hope to retain at home to York tomorrow.

Greenwood has no concerns about anyone being distracted regardless of whether they will be at current third-placed side Bulls next year or not, saying: “There’ll be a lot of players knocking about in teams now that know they’re not going to be at that club in 2024.

“Some players like Dee will have already sorted a move out and have that out in the open but that happens everywhere, it’s the same for every team.

“There are a lot of short-term deals in rugby league, which facilitates that, but there’s only one 2023, and Dee’s part of it for us.

“The whole squad are, and they’re all committed, you can see that in their efforts each week, whether they’re part of the matchday squad or not.

“Fog is no different, he’s been out for a while but done well since he’s come back in.

“He’s played and scored for the reserves, and kept himself fit while he’s been out of the side, so it’s no surprise to see him do a good job.”

Foggin-Johnston and his team-mates will have been warned not to get complacent despite the Betfred Championship play-offs being on the horizon, with Greenwood saying: “We’re just taking it week by week and know we’re playing one of the three form teams in the division in York.

“They’ve won seven of their last eight games, with just a narrow defeat to Toulouse in there, and they’ve beaten some play-off contenders in that time.

“We’re under no illusions about how hard it’ll be this weekend and they probably need to win all of their last three to get into the top six or their season is done.

“It’s a dangerous game for us and we can’t get complacent or comfortable with where we are in the table, and York will get the respect they deserve.

I’m still haunted by the poor performance at York in the reverse fixture as well.”

It is Bulls’ last game of the regular season at Odsal, where they have only lost to Batley, Barrow and Featherstone this season, and Greenwood said: “We’ve generally been very good there.

“It’s a difficult field to navigate but we should be more used to it playing there every other week.

Every game is so physical because of how tight it is but you do get used to that.

“We’re obviously hopeful it’s not our last game there this year as we want a home play-off, but it could be, so we’ll treat it as such.

“Hopefully the crowd turn out in good numbers for it too.”
