YORKSHIRE County Cricket Club have named their squad for the upcoming Vitality County Championship clash at Northamptonshire this week.

The game gets underway at Wantage Road this morning, and the visitors are desparate for a victory, having drawn four and lost two of their opening six games.

Left-arm seamer Vishwa Fernando, a Sri Lanka international, will make his debut for the side, while England superstar Joe Root is not in the squad, instead taking a break before playing in the first half of Yorkshire’s Vitality T20 Blast campaign, which gets underway next week.

Keighley native Will Luxton could make his seasonal debut for the first XI, while at least one of Dan Moriarty or Dom Bess should return, both spinners having been left out of last week’s defeat to Sussex.

Yorkshire’s batting is depleted, with this their first game of the season without Root or Harry Brook in the line-up.

But their bowling attack is also in trouble, due to an unfortunate run of injuries to their seamers.

Fernando’s debut will be most welcome, given Matt Milnes and Mickey Edwards are out for the season with stress fractures, while Ben Coad is ruled out of the Northamptonshire game with a back injury.
