BRADFORD (Park Avenue) were involved in an entertaining football match away to Athletico.

From the opening whistle, it was evident that both teams were determined to claim victory, displaying commitment and competitive spirit.

A scrappy first half saw both teams creating a number of scoring opportunities. But it was Athletico who broke the deadlock, racing into a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Avenue made changes and looked to be more aggressive in midfield.

After 20 minutes, Avenue’s efforts were rewarded as they took the lead. Three goals in quick succession for Avenue put the home team on the back foot, forcing them to push forward in search of more goal-scoring opportunities to get something out of the game. Ultimately Athletico’s opportunities were limited and, despite a late rally from the home side, Avenue added a fourth and held on, securing a well-deserved 4-3 win.

The new Second Division's start date sees Athletico, Bradford City’s u21s and Burley Trojans all at home, but Queensbury Celtic have a long journey to Boroughbridge for their opening game.

Tyersal were at home to new Third Division rivals Pontefract Sports and Social.

Tyersal gave a début to Deepikaa Govindarajan who has gained confidence despite never having kicked a ball before joining the team.

Despite good play from Lauren Burnett and defender Bex Ogden, and goals from Hayley Potter and Nikki Relton, it was a 5–2 loss for the Robins.

Tyersal have confirmed four new signings who have all shown great capabilities in pre-season: Jade Cameron, Lillie Lawson, Leanne Mitchell-Holt and Mollie Williams-Johnson, as they look forward to the first League match at Bradford United.

Skipton Town have put together some good results for their two teams.

Sophie Hawkins scored eight in an 11–0 trouncing of Regional League side Ripon City.

And the Devs won 5–1 at Harrogate Railway Reserves, including an Elly Field hat-trick.

An Ilkley Town XI drew 2–2 with Thackley, thanks to Millie Washington and Isabel Wilkes.

Many of our local teams are playing friendlies this weekend but particular mention is made of the Silsden v. Harrogate Railway game, where there will be raffles and donations towards Railway player Dee Swales’ specialist treatment.
