A BRADFORD boxer is hoping to finally return to the ring this summer on a huge 'War of the Roses' bill.

On July 16, Hamed Ghaz, of Undercliffe, hopes to end a 13-month hiatus outside the squared circle by fighting on the undercard of Brighouse lightweight James First's maiden title defence in Oldham.

The 25-year-old was scheduled to fight Italian Vincenzo Finiello twice late last year but both dates fell off at the final hour.

In October, a late medical issue and positive Covid tests for some of the fighters on the card were the reasons for the cancellation.

Then a month later adverse weather conditions put paid to the much-anticipated bout at the Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield.

The unbeaten English title mandatory is glad to move on with his career following a troublesome period.

On Instagram, Ghaz posted: "Buzzing to be back in the ring after such a long time and so many ups and downs over the last two years.

"But I can’t and won’t give up - July 16th is going to be the return of the Hurricane.

"For tickets, get in touch. All support is appreciated as always."

First defends his Central Area title defence against Morecambe boxer Reece MacMillan in the main event of the Maree Boxing show.

The 41-year-old lightweight, who turned professional at 36, secured the title back in February in his 11th fight.

Prospect Fezan Shahid (1-1) also features on the card, fresh from outpointing another Bradfordian, journeyman Jake Pollard (0-34) back in March.
