HAMED Ghaz will have to wait another day to fight for the IBO Continental Lightweight Title.

The Bradford boxer was due to take on Italian Vincenzo Finiello for the belt tomorrow at Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield, but organisers Fight Academy regrettably announced the show was postponed earlier this week.

Unfortunately, a late medical issue for one of the main fighters, along with positive Covid tests, mean the event has become unviable.

Ghaz and Finiello's fight was due to top the bill, with Sheffield’s Keanen Wainwright in the chief support slot.

The card will be rearranged for a later date, but it will be a huge blow for the Bradfordian, who has been training hard in recent months, but has not fought since June, when he secured a superb technical knockout win over Liam Shinkwin.

It was only Shinkwin's second defeat in 12 professional fights, and ensured Ghaz got his 17th win from 17 as a professional, with four knockout victories in that time.

As for this weekend's postponement, Fight Academy’s Dennis Hobson stated: “We’re hugely disappointed to have to postpone the show.

“It’s something we never like to do, and it’s only happened a handful of times to me in all my years in boxing.

“With the fights falling through at the last minute, it just became impossible to find suitable opponents and it wouldn’t have been fair on the fans, or fighters, to go ahead.

“Again, apologies to everyone affected – I’m disappointed for all the boxers who were lined up on the card, and their supporters.”
