LATEST NEWS: Fundraiser set up in memory of teenager who died suddenly

A SCHOOL has paid tribute to a teenager following his tragic death. 

A huge police presence descended on Westgate in Baildon, at around 7.30am last Thursday, following reports of a medical emergency involving a 16-year-old boy.

The teenager, named locally as Saafi, was rushed to hospital where he sadly passed away.

His death has left the Baildon community in shock and tributes poured in after the devastating news broke. 

People highlighted Saafi's polite nature and sent their condolences to his family at such a difficult time. 

In a touching statement, Titus Salt School, said: "Our school community is saddened by the death of one of our former pupils, Saafi Ahmed.

"It is always tragic to hear of the death of someone so young."

The statement, released on the Baildon school's website, added: "Saafi was a polite young man with a big personality and warm smile.

"Our thoughts and support are with the family at this very sad time."

Tributes have also poured in on social media.

One person wrote: "Forever young my boy."

Another person said: "So sad, thinking about the family."

One person posted: "Forever 16, fly high up there Saafi gone way too soon, RIP"

Another person said: "Gone but never forgotten Saafi Brown hope you have the best bed up there forever 16."

He was described as the "most polite boy" in another tribute.

Rose Mitchell added: "My condolences to everyone connected to this young boy.

"My heartfelt sympathy, such a tragedy. May he rest in eternal peace."

Darlene Storke added: "Rip Saafi, you are gonna be missed so much. Forever in our hearts Darlene."

Philip Davies, Conservative MP for Shipley, sent his thoughts to the boy's family after the news broke. 

He said: "It is absolutely tragic.

"It is unimaginable what his family must be going through.

"It is truly awful and a terrible tragedy."

He added: "My heart goes out to the family who must be going through hell right now."

Allison Coates, a Conservative councillor for Baildon, added: "My fellow ward councillors and I are very saddened to hear of the death of a 16-year-old boy within our ward.

"The death of anyone so young is truly tragic and our thoughts, and no doubt those of the whole Baildon community, are with his loved ones at this sad time."

West Yorkshire Police is treating Saafi's death as unexplained at this time and enquiries are ongoing.
