A TRANSIT van has been seized by police after discovering the driver was uninsured.

Officers from the Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team seized a white Transit van on Bradford Road/Field Lane in Batley on Thursday, August 3.

After carrying out checks, the van was found to be uninsured.

The van driver was reported for a court summons for the incident.

It is a prosecutable offence to use a motor vehicle on a road without insurance.

Penalties can include a fixed penalty notice and points on your license, a substantial fine, and even a disqualification from driving.

Police have powers to seize and, in appropriate cases, destroy vehicles that have been driven whilst uninsured.

In 2022, West Yorkshire was named as one of the UK regions with the highest total fines given by police to uninsured drivers.

Confused.com found that 101,859 fines were given in West Yorkshire between 2012 and 2021.
