The Government has been urged to rethink plans to scrap Northern Powerhouse Rail in full and build a new high-speed link to Bradford.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt revealed the Government will only deliver the ‘core’ Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) route in his autumn statement.

Dr Manoj Joshi, chair of the Bradford Economic Partnership, said: “The chancellor has talked about his commitment to growth and levelling up, in which case the Government needs to make good on the full Northern Powerhouse Rail route and include Bradford.

“We know the potential this can bring to our district in terms of investment, clean growth and jobs. Research has shown that it is the key to boosting Bradford’s economy by almost £30bn over a decade, providing 27,000 jobs and creating a regeneration site three times the size of Canary Wharf. It’s what our economy needs and we want to work with the Government to make it happen.”
