POUNDLAND has addressed speculation that it could be moving into Shipley’s Wilko store when it closes.

Wilko on Kirkgate will shut for good on Saturday, November 26, the company confirmed earlier this year.

The high street retailer originally announced in January this year that its store in Shipley would close its doors.

The news came as a huge blow to the town, particularly as it occupies a prominent unit on Kirkgate.

The store was originally due to close in February, but the date was pushed back to November.

There had been some online speculation that Poundland, which has just opened a huge store in the Forster Square Retail Park, would move into the premises.

But, a Poundland spokesperson said: "We aren't looking at anything in Shipley at the moment, but if that changes we'll be in touch."

Wilko said it could not agree favourable lease terms with the Kirkgate premises' landlord.
