A NEW Poundland store is opening in Bradford’s Forster Square Retail Park - and it will be twice the size of a normal store.

The new shop, which will be more than 12,000 square feet, will open its doors at 9am on Saturday, October 22.

Twenty full and part-time staff will be employed.

A Poundland spokesperson said: “The former One Below site has been designed to make sure customers get the best shopping experience possible, with wide aisles and belted checkouts.”

It will stock essentials like groceries, drinks and snacks, as well as revamped health and beauty, entertainment, stationery and craft ranges.

PEP&Co clothing, featuring womenswear, menswear and kidswear will be stocked, along with home furnishings like cushions, throws, ornaments, plants and storage.

The store will join the growing number of Poundland stores to sell chilled and frozen food powered by Fultons, the Barnsley-based frozen food specialist acquired in 2020.

Darren Kay, Poundland director of retail, said: “Yorkshire is one of Poundland’s heartland regions and we’re delighted to have found another great location in Bradford Forster Square.

“The new store has been designed to show off Poundland at its best and like all our stores it will offer amazing value to help our customers as their household budgets feel the squeeze.”

The new store joins the existing Poundland stores in the city – Kirkgate Shopping Centre, The Broadway, as well as Enterprise 5 Retail Park in Idle.

The Bradford Forster Square store is one of up to 25 new stores and relocations planned between now and the end of the year.

In a planning application to Bradford Council, the company requested approval to change the One Below signage to its Poundland branding.

A spokesperson said: “Bradford is a great location for Poundland and we’re looking forward to opening a new store at Bradford Forster Square Retail Park later in the year.

“We’re putting together a store the city can be proud of, with more of what customers need and at the amazing value we’re famous for.

Back in July, it was reported Poundland had notched up a hike in sales due to surging demand from cash-strapped shoppers in the cost-of-living crisis.

Owner Pepco said Poundland sales rose two per cent on a like-for-like basis over its third quarter to June 30, with revenues up 3.8 per cent at 507 million euros (£429 million).

Poundland sales jumped 5.6 per cent on a comparison with three years ago before the pandemic struck.
