Police have issued the latest update on their investigation into an attempted robbery and bingo hall chaos in the Holme Wood and Tong area.

The incidents - which took place around 7pm on Sunday, September 4 - allegedly saw victims of an attempted robbery run towards safety at nearby Buzz Bingo in Weaverthorpe Retail Park.

A large police scene remained in the Holme Wood area as enquiries focused on the Eggleston Drive, Landscove Avenue and Argent Way area.

A statement at the time suggested that three men ran into the venue around 7.35pm and claimed they were being chased by men armed with a gun.

West Yorkshire Police arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with an attempted robbery on Eggleston Drive.

In the latest update from the force, police said the man has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Bingo players who watched the scenes unfold mid-game have shared eye witness accounts of people screaming and getting under the tables to seek shelter.

Meanwhile a smashed up car was dumped outside the entrance – damage caused by a brick, initial police enquiries suggested.
