Two large police cordons on the Holme Wood estate were linked to an attempted robbery on Sunday evening, it has now emerged. 

West Yorkshire Police has arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the incident on Eggleston Drive, Bradford, and he remains in custody. 

A scene was put in place to allow officers to carry out an investigation, a spokesperson said, as access was restricted to residents only.

All roads have since reopened.

Enquiries are ongoing, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said.

It comes amid official confirmation that the armed robbery was connected to the serious incident at Buzz Bingo in Bradford.

The victims ran from the attempted robbery – close to Landscove Avenue - to the bingo hall at Weaverthorpe Retail Park, a police spokesperson confirmed.

Armed police were called to the venue around 7.35pm when three men allegedly ran into the venue saying that they were being chased by men armed with a gun.

Bingo players who watched the scene unfold mid-game have shared eye witness accounts of people screaming and getting under the tables to seek shelter.

As scenes of chaos unfolded, one dabber reportedly began hitting the bingo buzzer to alert the caller in the main bingo hall.

Meanwhile a smashed up car was dumped outside the entrance – damaged by a brick, according to initial police enquiries.

One customer told the Telegraph & Argus: “Everyone was screaming, panicking.”

A Buzz Bingo spokesperson said: “We can confirm that an incident occurred at our Bradford club on Sunday 4 September.

"Member and colleague safety is our number one priority and we are supporting the authorities with their enquiries into this matter.”
