A crash between three cars and a lorry took place on the M62 this afternoon, leading to almost 40 minute long delays.

The incident took place on the M62 westbound between J25 A644 Wakefield Road (Brighouse) and J24 A629 (Ainley Top) on Tuesday morning. 

Lanes one, two and three of four were closed with an average speed of 15 mph along the route.

All lanes have since reopened but traffic queues remain around the stretch near Ainley Top. 

The T&A's traffic partner INRIX said: "Three lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident, three cars and a lorry involved on M62 Westbound between J25 A644 Wakefield Road (Brighouse) and J24 A629 (Ainley Top).

"Queueing traffic on the Eastbound Carriageway as onlookers slow to look at the accident."

Meanwhile the AA had warned severe delays of 39 minutes were to be expected.
