DRAMATIC footage shows the huge fountain-like effect of a burst water main in Bingley.

Work to fix the burst water main, found at the junction of Ferncliffe Road and Fernbank Drive in Gilstead, has now entered its third day.

Yorkshire Water said workers are finding the burst water main “a little trickier” to fix than originally thought.

The burst has likely been caused due to intense pressure from high water demand and very little rain fall, according to a spokesperson.

In a statement, Yorkshire Water said: “Our pipes have been under a lot of pressure recently – we’ve seen the highest water demand in over 15 years and very little rain, leaving the ground dry which can cause pipes to fracture more easily.

“We’ve increased resource in our field teams, so that we can catch more small leaks before they turn into bursts and fix the big bursts as soon as possible.

“We’ve been working hard to fix a burst pipe on Ferncliffe Road in Bingley. The repair has been a little trickier than we would like, so it has taken longer than usual. We hope to have the road reopen by the end of the week.”
