PROPOSALS to turn a Conservation Area building into a restaurant and takeaway have been refused.
650 Great Horton Road had been used as a beauty salon in recent years. Most recently the ground floor unit has been converted into a flat, without planning permission.
M Shabir submitted a planning application to re-instate the building’s original shop front and convert it to a restaurant and take away.
There would be two flats above the business.
But planning officers have now refused the application for a plethora of reasons.
One of the main concerns was the impact the new business would have on traffic on an already busy road.

Highways officers said: “The restaurant use would have no designated parking and the hot food takeaway element would generate several short trips to and from the site.
“Given that there is no parking and no indication of hours of operation, this proposal could result in adverse impact to highways safety as this is a busy, main road with already congested parking facilities.”
Officers also claimed there was a lack of information in the plans about the layout of the business, and that access to the upper floor flats, from the rear of the building, would be “unsafe and unwelcoming access".
