DOUBLE yellow lines will be installed at various points on a Bradford road to prevent cars parking in cycle lanes.

Bradford Council proposed the “no waiting at any time” restrictions for short stretches either side of a number of “build outs” on Bierley Lane and the pavement.

The build out features, which narrow the road and give priority to traffic travelling a certain direction, are designed to slow down car traffic.

But they also include a cycle pass for cyclists to pass through without having to pull into the centre of the road.

However, cars regularly park on the street either side of these build outs – preventing cyclists from using the features without mounting the pavement or pulling into traffic.

The Council’s Bradford South Area Committee approved the new double yellows at a meeting last week.

Traffic calming measures planned for Leylands Lane

They will be installed at the build outs near the junctions with Bierley House Avenue, Smith Street, Firth Row and School Street.

There had been an objection to the plans, with the objector calling for the build outs to be removed completely.

They said the double yellow lines would be “excessive.”

Highways officers replied: “The proposals are necessary to facilitate safe passage for cyclists through the road narrowings.”
