Leeds Bradford Airport has issued travel advice for people flying abroad this week.

It comes after another week of travel chaos at the UK's airports, including long queues outside Leeds Bradford and ongoing staff shortages in the ground handling and airport sector.

The aviation sector across Europe is experiencing “operational issues” including air traffic control delays, and increased times for identity checks of new recruits.

Travellers holidaying abroad from Leeds Bradford this week have been urged to arrive no earlier than three hours before their flight.

Airport bosses have insisted this action alone will help speed up the process of getting flight passengers through security.

A spokesperson for LBA said: "If you're due to travel from Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) this week, our official guidance is to arrive no earlier than three hours before your flight departure time.

"You can help to speed up your passage through security by familiarising yourself with the process."

How much is fast track at Leeds Bradford Airport?

The fast track route through to security is currently capped due to high demand, Leeds Bradford Airport said.

Fast track is not available to be booked within 24 hours of your departure time.

Fast track costs £5 per person when it is pre-booked online while one child goes free for every paying adult.

LBA delays and queues - why is it happening?

A Leeds Bradford spokesperson previously said the airport is working hard to overcome the issues with “ongoing recruitment and training activities and more staff being released to the operation from training each week”.

Speaking in May, the spokesperson added: “We have additional opportunities across the operation and encourage anyone looking for work to apply via our website – www.leedsbradfordairport.co.uk

“Some airlines are actively managing queues to pull people to the front as their flights near departure. Each airline has its own policy and process in this regard.

“Unfortunately, these current challenges are an industry wide problem, caused by the speed of withdrawal of travel restrictions and testing which has led to the rapid recovery of international travel.

“Airports across the country are being impacted by lead times to recruit and train additional staff.

“We would like to apologise to passengers impacted by queues at LBA.

“We’re working hard to overcome these challenges, that are impacting airports across the country, through recruitment and training initiatives, while managing queues safely.”
