MORE than £1,000 was raised during a sponsored walk by organisers of a Jubilee charity day.

The wives, girlfriends and family members of AFC Undercliffe footballers walked 10 miles on May 7.

They raised £1,180 in total and completed the challenge in around two hours.

This total will go towards the football club's Jubilee charity day on Friday, which has been organised in conjunction with Undercliffe CC.

All money raised will help four charities: Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA), Mind, Marie Curie and Candlelighters.

Police and the fire service will attend the day, while YAA have a booth at the event.

The family fun day will feature a charity football match, charity cricket match and tug o' war battle.

There will also be traditional football cards, face painting, hair braiding, a bouncy castle and slide, bucking bronco, hook a duck, nighttime disco and karaoke and meat raffle.

The main events will take place at Undercliffe Cricket Club while the charity football match can be viewed at Peel Park.

Charity organiser, Dave Long, said the two clubs have always prided themselves on their charity work.

He added: "After the last few years fundraising has had to take a back seat so this year we're going big."
