Film bosses have confirmed what was being filmed on Sunday, causing Bingley bypass to be partially closed for the entire day.

Speculation on social media suggested that it was more takes of the Yorkshire-based crime drama, Happy Valley series being shot, as passers-by noticed mock-up police cars and ambulances.

However, it has been confirmed today that the film set, which caused Sir Fred Hoyle Way to be closed from 6 am on Sunday morning, was in fact for a new BBC series called ‘Better.’

David Wilson, Director of Bradford UNESCO City of Film, said: “Bradford City of Film is supporting a number of locations for the BBC One drama 'Better' which is based in West Yorkshire and is produced by Sister Pictures.

“The drama has used a wide range of locations across Bradford and Leeds and on this occasion, a key scene needed to be filmed on a highway.

“Writers from the region are involved in the drama’s development and lots of local cast and crew are involved along with local businesses.

“We understand filming can create some disruption but believe the local benefits are significant.”

The BBC announced at the end of April that filming had begun for the new five-part thriller Better from Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, writers of BAFTA and RTS-nominated hit Humans.

Leila Farzad, who is best known for her roles playing Naomi Jones in the Sky Atlantic series I Hate Suzie has been named as the lead actress.

Leila said: “Better is a brilliant fresh take on the morality tale. I am excited to have the opportunity to play Lou Slack, the vehicle through which we explore the multivalent layers of good and bad. A complex, flawed yet utterly human character.

“I feel very lucky to be a part of such a wonderful show with an incredibly talented team attached to it.”

The new show has been described as a ‘bold and surprising redemption story’ produced by award-winning content studio SISTER (Chernobyl, This is Going to Hurt).

The fast-paced show is also said to explore the complex and powerful bonds of loyalty and family, set in a world where everyone has their own version of “right” and “wrong”.

Also joining the cast are Col McHugh (Broadchurch, The Honourable Woman, ABC Murders), Samuel Edward-Cook (Peaky Blinders), Zak Ford-Williams (Wolfe), Ceallach Spellman (Cold Feet) Carolin Stoltz (Liar), Anton Lesser (Killing Eve, The Trial of Christine Keeler) and Olivia Nakintu (Vera).
